More traffic is not always the answer

When enquiries are flat, the instinct is to buy more traffic. But if the page does not convert, more visitors just means a more expensive leak.

When a business wants more customers, the default advice is to get more traffic — more ads, more SEO, more posting. Sometimes that is right. Often it treats a symptom while ignoring the cause.

Traffic multiplies whatever is already happening

If one hundred visitors produce two enquiries, doubling traffic to two hundred produces four. That can look like progress, but you have also doubled the number of people who arrived, felt uncertain, and left. You paid more to leak more.

Improving the conversion path changes the maths in your favour permanently. If those same one hundred visitors produce four enquiries instead of two, every future visit — paid or organic — is worth more.

When traffic is the right lever

  • Your page already converts well and you simply need more of the right people.
  • You are invisible for searches with clear commercial intent.
  • You are entering a new service area with no presence at all.

When conversion is the right lever

  • Visitors arrive but rarely contact you.
  • Your bounce rate is high on key service pages.
  • People call to ask questions the site should have answered.
Fix the leak before you turn up the tap. Otherwise you are just paying to lose faster.
